What To Wear - Family Portrait Photography
The biggest questions that I have from familes when scheduling their portrait sitting is “what do we wear”?
I will then go into a long speech about how I do not want them to show up as carbon copies… all wearing the same thing but rather come as individuals. I will suggest that the choose 3 to 4 colors and then wear different combinations of those colors.
Well, I was searching the net the other say and I came a cross this brilliant idea of having a visual collage of “What To Wear”…. how neat is that. For the first look that I put together I went with some fun summer colors (yellow, aqua, brown and white). It’s a casual look that say we belong together without saying we’re twins. The clothing below can be found at Old Navy and GAP .
Look number two is because sometimes you just want something a bit more formal… you know for those Holiday portraits. Here I used the combination of yellow, black, grey and white to make a slightly more formal look. These looks can be found at J. Crew, Banana Republic, Old Navy, Piperlime and Zandino.
And for those who want a slightly funkier/ hip look check this one out. I used red, blue, black and grey for the colors and I just love the way it looks together. You can find this collection at Banana Republic and Zandino.

I love your ideas & how you put together outfits using very common American stores! I try and tell families that wearing all one color and doing the uniform thing that we see so often with the tan chinos & white shirt is really horrible! No one dresses like that and families have an individual style and should feel free to express it for a portrait. I refuse to photograph family’s in matchy matchy clothing.LOL! I am going to use your page on my “what to wear” page. It’s perfect!
Thnak you!
